the same envelope that i licked closed

'But isn't it so sweet, to have a chance to see my words in print, and touch the same envelope that I licked closed, a couple weeks prior to it arriving at your door?'

"Waiting on a Letter" by Zoe Loukia, Tea and Oranges, 06/02/25

I really liked this excerpt.

It inspires me to write letters again and enjoy the beautiful stationary my ex-boyfriend graciously gifted me for our one and only Christmas we spent together. But maybe the stationary is just a bitter reminder of the life I could have lived, writing at the little black desk in the room overlooking the neighborhood on the hill, as he worked beside me at his own black desk, signing off each letter with 'from Kyrra, with love.'

So, alongside the wonder of whom to send my precious works to, that's just the precursor of the sadness I'd inevitably feel in even just wondering what could have been at one point. And perhaps, as silly as it may be, if I would have used this beautiful stationary when my life was still a beauty to behold, I may have been able to save it in some strange way.

I do love a good letter, though! Maybe I'll send one to my sibling or should I say, [REDACTED]. Who do I address it to.. (?)
