the detriment of wallowing in self-pity

When one wallows in self-pity, all that comes of this is unhappiness. It is an intentional act to be unhappy. Of course, there must be some kind of a balance because to deny oneself of all unhappiness is inhuman and will fail to create growth.

But I find it such an intriguing concept that you can intentionally deny yourself happiness. This is something I never really thought about but by bringing up past circumstances and sitting in the bad feelings surrounding them, it was an intentional act to be or become unhappy.

Why does my brain or anyone's brain for that matter do this?

For instance, while in my prior relationship, him and I could have been doing the most joyous thing (driving around the glorious Smoky Mountains) and I know, for a fact, there was some point in time where I began to wallow in some misery I'd once endured and probably decided to then talk about it. It is something to always feel so insecure. To always want someone else to make you feel better after you intentionally make yourself feel bad.

What a strange thing...

Now, how to move past this! How to become one that doesn't focus on the lackluster in life nor destitutes their own life for unhappiness. On to happier, better, clearer, more intentional thoughts!

Perhaps not now, but maybe eventually. Not maybe, eventually indeed.

Because who am I to deny myself happiness in this life?
