on always wanting to be someone you're not:
Whenever I crack open a book, I find myself constantly analyzing the characters to latch on to certain traits that I feel I have. However, recently I’ve recognized that I also tend to latch on to characters that I truly have nothing in common with–and I know this–but for some reason, act as if I could be like that if I really wanted to. Or rather, if I really tried.
I take so much time and care into finding key components about fictional characters to somehow feel more like me or more normal or more likeable. Because if this fictional character was created by a real person and if I can somehow emulate certain characteristics to be alike to this made-up character, I must be important then, too.
If this character was created with important meaning and depth and I can find intrinsic qualities to relate to, I must be important, too. Why don’t I feel important individually? And why do I specifically attach to characters in which I don’t intrinsically align?
