Day 3
I saw the Northern Lights last night! Oh my!
J and I went to a typically fairly secluded spot for best viewing, but we were met with a mass of people who were already at our spot. We decided to park and hike a way until we found a nice clearing with little to no light pollution.
We watched the first round of lights which were primarily blue and green, but hard to see very well with just our sight. But then! We decided to wait it out a little hopeful for the next round of them and boy did we luck out. (Thankfully J is an aurora borealis fanatic and had done his thorough research to learn that there would be a few rounds of lights) This second phase was so incredible, beginning with an unnaturally bright red line in the eastern part of the sky near the horizon. It moved farther and farther upwards, while simultaneously spreading out among almost half of the whole sky. There were bright patches that looked like bright, light holes in-between all the red and orange. We couldn't believe our eyes and jumped around in joy for our rare stroke of luck.
But we are planning on going again tonight! So, I'll have to update on that later on.
It felt like such a divine moment to see such vibrant colors in the midst of the pitch-black night. Like red or orange or blue flames moving across the horizon.
There are flying colors
The night is so cold and bitter
The wind howls ruthlessly
Coyotes howl
Lonely
But I
Am not alone
I shiver on the Earth
But the light ahead runs towards me
And my eyesight blurs
In the East
Fire
Get up! Get up!
I remove my body from the Earth and run
Towards the fire!
Around one curve
Around another curve
Into the fire now
So quickly it moves upwards
Flying in the sky until it fully engulfs its being
The Earth is cold no longer
Fire is burning
The colors are flying
