Day 26 - Decisions, Decisions
So, J and I have been cold turkey off social media for about 42 calendar days. It's honestly been easier than expected but I fully believe that has to do with the fact that we were in it together because attempting to quit something like social media solo would be horrendous. We also just have taken on a general mindset in the past year or so that social media is pretty damaging for our creativity and mental wellbeing so knowing that we were amounting to do something very beneficial for us was a good motivator.
However, Easter is quickly approaching and then we will have decisions to make regarding social media. Should we reenter its grounds or simply wish it farewell forever? I feel it will be more challenging to not enter into its territory when there isn't a challenge at hand that neither of us want to fail. I have a feeling that in moments of boredom or wanting to disassociate from the world (because who doesn't feel like they need that now and then) I might revert back to my old ways.
I think I need to make a decision of whether or not I want to reenter social media and if so, put down some limits. I just have a feeling those limits would be broken quite easily. In regard to that sentence, I feel I should just embark on a journey completely free and rid of the social media junk that can so easily fill your mind. I have enjoyed this time immensely and although I do miss certain YouTubers on occasion or even scrolling, I know that absolutely nothing good comes from it and I'm hoping that if I can surpass a year or more of being social media-less, I won't have one inkling of missing it.
I'd rather keep moving forward than go back a step; therefore, I am declaring myself social media-free even after Easter. For the benefit of my mental health and brain health!
